The Thank You page widget isn't showing

If the 1ClickReferral widget isn't appearing on the Shopify Thank You page – or you've finished setup and want to verify it's working – work through this checklist in order. The first three causes account for nearly all reports of a missing widget. Section 5 covers how to verify the widget is showing without waiting for a real customer.

1. Is the referral program activated?

This is the most common cause. Adding the widget block to your checkout makes it available, but the program won't show the widget to customers until you activate it inside 1ClickReferral.

How to check:

  • Open 1ClickReferral and look at the Dashboard. The button should read Pause program (meaning the program is currently active). If it reads Activate program, the program is paused.
  • Alternatively, go to the Referral program settings page and check the program status switch.

How to fix:

Click Activate program on the Dashboard, or toggle the program status switch on the Referral program settings page. Either action turns the program on – the widget will start showing on the Thank You page immediately for new orders.

2. Has the widget block been added to your Shopify checkout?

The 1ClickReferral widget is a Shopify Checkout Extension. It needs to be manually added to your Thank You page once before it can show up. Even if 1ClickReferral is installed and the program is activated, the widget won't appear until the checkout block is in place.

How to check:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to SettingsCheckout
  2. Under Checkout customization, click Customize
  3. In the checkout editor, navigate to the Thank you page (not the Checkout page or the Order status page)
  4. Look for 1ClickReferral in the list of blocks on the page

If it's not there, the block hasn't been added yet.

How to fix:

  1. In the checkout editor on the Thank you page, click Add app block in the sidebar
  2. Select 1ClickReferral
  3. Click Save

For the full step-by-step setup walkthrough, see How to install and set up your referral program.

3. Was the widget added to the wrong page?

Shopify's checkout editor has multiple pages: the main Checkout page, the Thank you page, and the Order status page. The 1ClickReferral widget only works on the Thank you page.

If you added the widget block but to a different page by mistake, the widget won't appear after a purchase.

How to check:

  1. In the checkout editor, navigate through each page (Checkout, Thank you, Order status)
  2. Look for the 1ClickReferral block on each one
  3. Confirm it's on the Thank you page specifically

How to fix:

If the block is on the wrong page, remove it from that page and add it to the Thank you page following the steps in section 2.

4. Did you save your changes in the checkout editor?

Shopify's checkout editor doesn't save automatically. If you added the block but navigated away or closed the tab without clicking Save, the change wasn't persisted.

How to check:

Go back to the checkout editor and check the Thank you page. If the widget block is missing, it wasn't saved.

How to fix:

Add the block again following the steps in section 2, and click Save before closing the editor.

5. Have you verified the widget is showing?

If you've added the block and activated the program, the next step is to actually see the widget on a real Thank You page. You don't need to wait for a real customer – place a test order on your own store to confirm everything is working.

How to verify:

Place a test order using Shopify's Bogus Gateway or Shopify Payments test mode, then complete the checkout to land on the Thank You page. The 1ClickReferral widget should appear with the headline, description, referral code, and share buttons.

For the full step-by-step walkthrough, see Shopify's official guide on placing a test order.

If the widget appears on the test order:

Everything is working correctly. The widget will appear for all real customers who complete a purchase from now on.

If the widget still doesn't appear on a test order:

Continue to section 6.

6. Are you sure no real orders have been placed yet?

Sometimes the widget is configured correctly but there's nothing to show because no real customers have completed an order yet. The widget only appears after a purchase – it doesn't show on draft orders or abandoned checkouts.

How to check:

  • Go to the Reports page in 1ClickReferral. If it shows zero referrals and zero advocate codes generated, no orders have been processed by 1ClickReferral yet.
  • Cross-check with your Shopify Orders page. If you have recent orders but 1ClickReferral shows zero activity, that's a different problem – continue to section 7.

How to fix:

If no real orders have been placed, the widget is likely working as expected. Place a test order to confirm (see section 5).

7. Could a theme or app conflict be hiding the widget?

Less common, but possible. Some Shopify themes or other checkout-modifying apps can affect how Checkout Extensions render.

How to check:

  • Place a test order with your default Shopify theme (or a recent unmodified theme) to see if the widget appears
  • Temporarily pause other apps that customize the checkout or Thank You page, then place another test order

How to fix:

If the widget appears with a different theme or with other apps paused, the issue is a conflict. Reach out to your theme developer or the conflicting app's support team. You can also contact 1ClickReferral support and we'll help investigate.

Still not working?

If you've worked through everything above and the widget still isn't appearing, contact 1ClickReferral support with:

  • Your store URL
  • A screenshot of the Thank You page where the widget should appear
  • Confirmation that the program is activated and the checkout block is in place
  • Any other apps that customize your checkout or Thank You page

We'll dig into it from our end.
